Applications for grants:   The Listening to Learn Guild, Inc. meets yearly to consider grant applications.  Please download the Colorado Common Grant form, (CGA) from www.coloradocommongrantforms.org, and return to the Listening to Learn Guild, Inc. 1720 S. Bellaire Street Suite 405, Denver, CO  80222.

Please complete Sections 1 (Cover Letter), Section 2 (Summary Sheet Form) and Section 3 (Narrative).  Also please include financial attachment 1b (Program Budget).  

Grants will be awarded based on the following criteria:

Grants will be to qualified Colorado educational institutions for assistive technology for students with learning disabilities.  The Colorado Guidelines for Health Professionals, Educators, and Administrators describe an assistive technology device as “any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially, or off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of [individuals] with disabilities.” [34 CFR 300.5]

Grants will be awarded to institutions to assist students with the following needs:  communication disorders, visual impairments, hearing loss, and learning/cognitive impairments.

  • Assistive technology grants must be used for educational purposes.
  • Institutions should submit a statement explaining their need for a specific tool, and how that tool will impact student learning.
  • Requests must also specify the type of assistive technology needed and a specific dollar amount.
  • Age eligibility:  Students enrolled in 3rd grade through post-graduate studies in an accredited Colorado educational institution.
  • Institutions receiving grants must estimate the number of students who will use the assistive technology.
  • Institutions must include a statement indicating how a particular grant will further the goals of the Listening to Learn Guild’s mission statement.
  • Institutions receiving grants must document how they implemented the technology and show examples of effective use within 12 months.  Institutions must use the Colorado Grant Report form found at http://www.coloradocommongrantforms.org/.  Sec. 1 (Summary sheet), Sec. 2 (Narrative), Sec. 3 (Updated program budget, and accompanying narrative),  and Sec. 4 (evaluation results, if available) should be included
  • A letter of grant acceptance must be signed by the applicant upon approval of the grant.
  • Grants will be awarded annually.  The deadline for grant submission is September 15th of each year.

The legal definition of assistive technology includes both assistive technology devices and services.  An assistive technology device is any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of [individuals] with disabilities. [34 CFR 300.5]  An assistive technology service means any service that directly assists [an individual] with a disability in the selection, acquisition, or use of an assistive technology device including training.  [34CFR 300.6]
